Motor vehicle has a lane change assistance system for detection of a dangerous situation arising during a lane change. The inventive system has means for detecting another vehicle to the side or rear of the system vehicle. If such a vehicle is detected, then when the drivers signals his intention to maneuver, the indicator noise and or indicator visual sign change in some way to indicate the perceived danger.
