Blowing tool halves(5,6) on tool carriers containing preforms move to a blowing station(3) which moves along part of a transporting path in the transporting direction(31) and then moves in the opposite direction. During these movements the blowing tool halves move relative to each other in opening and closing movements. Movement of the preform and container transporting chain or belt(29) is intermittent. The blowing station has two or more cavities for simultaneous inflation of preforms to form containers. Movement of tool halves(5,6) in both the transporting direction and in the opening and closing directions is produced by a common drive mechanism. The duration of tool opening and closing movements is similar to that for the movement of inflated containers out of the blowing station and preforms into the blowing station. Compressed air inflation of preforms occurs when the blow molding station(3) is stationary. An Independent claim is made for the process equipment whose blow molding station moves along the preform and container transporting path and is connected to a drive unit so that a movement along the transporting path overlaps a movement transverse to the latter.
