A system to detect the presence of Legionellaceae bacteria in hot and cold water supplies comprises a water pipe (1) to take water from a supply tank with a valve (2) leading to an analysis vessel (3), a heater (6) maintaining a water temperature of 30-40 degreesC for a given time period for the growth of Legionellaceae bacteria and a probe (7) with a bio-sensor or an optical measurement unit or surface analysis system (8) that gives a measure for the amount of Legionellaceae bacteria, where the sample water is taken through an overflow (9) into the drain pipe (10).
