The method involves focusing light (1) from at least one light source with a large aperture angle via at least one optical device onto at least one specimen (6) or onto a reference standard (12) that can be introduced when required, acquiring reflected light with a smaller aperture angle and focusing it with an optical device onto the inlet opening of a spectrograph or inlet openings of optical cables (13) leading to the spectrograph. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a spectrometer for implementing the inventive method.
