A process for the production of ethers, esters or acid anhydrides comprises flowing a solution of an inorganic or organic acid halide and alkyl halide through a filter cake containing salts of organic or oxygen containing inorganic acids or alcoholates such that the insoluble halide salt formed remains of the filter.
