The composite membrane (1) for a membrane valve has at least one backing layer (11) of elastomer and at least one cover layer (12) of a media-resistant polymer material. The cover layer is a sintered compact and is vulcanized onto the backing layer. The backing layer and cover layer are centrally interconnected in a flat region (B), the diameter of which is smaller than the effective diameter of the membrane. The cover layer may have varying wall thickness in different flat regions.
