To fasten a printing plate (10) to the printing cylinder, in a rotary printing press and especially a rotary offset printing press, the two ends (12,13) of the plate are held within a clamping gap (14) at the cylinder circumference and parallel to the cylinder axis. One end of the plate is pushed into the gap, and the end is bent over at the gap edge (17). The plate is wound around the cylinder, until its other end lies over the gap, to be bent over into the gap and lock the inserted first end in place. The plate is wound around the cylinder by a pressure roller (16), and the second end is pushed home by a blade (21).
