Self supporting protective device (2) has releasable mechanical connection (22) to attach it to operator panel (1). It has transparent, preferably PET cover (21) to screen the flat front part of the display/control panel from environmental effects. Connection (22) is a tensioning frame with clamps located at edge of cover.
