The method involves comparing at least one parameter describing the transverse dynamics of the vehicle with at least one threshold value for the transverse dynamics. If the actual value is greater than or equal to the threshold value a threshold speed or its derivative is determined for a wheel on the inside of the bend and compared with an actual wheel value to detect a critical state.
