The method of geographically localizing a mobile station (2) in a communication network (1) having several base transmitter/receiver stations and several cells, involves providing a tracking station (3). Location relevant information is circulated through at least one of the base stations. This information identifies a region within the network in which the mobile station (2) is located. The location relevant information is recovered by the mobile station. A text or SMS message containing this information is sent to the tracking station. The geographical position of the mobile station is then determined on the basis of the information contained in the text message.
