The process forms a multi-colored coating using a single process and one paint only. The paint contains interference pigments. Adjustment of color locations of the pigment coating on reflective sub-bases is by lateral coating thickness variation and/or pigment concentration. The pigments used have good covering ability, either on their own or in combination with other pigments. Application of the paint coat is by brush, roller, doctor blade, spraying, etc. with coating thickness adjusted in laterally defined ranges, or statistically at random. The process is used for individualization of products, precise or more restraint markings, application of logos or information.
