Method for determining the viscosity of brake fluid using fluid level measurement equipment used with a brake fluid reservoir. Said measurement equipment comprises a float coupled to a yoke that interacts with the coil of an electromagnet. According to the method the coil is connected to a voltage source which forces the float into the brake fluid. The average velocity of the float is determined over a measurement interval and the current strength in the (6) coil is measured at a given time point. From the two values the fluid viscosity is determined.
