Binders for wood glue comprise aqueous polymer dispersions obtained by radical polymerisation in presence of copolymers of unsaturated carboxylic acids and/or esters with hydroxy-amine compounds
Aqueous polymer dispersions for use as binders in wood glue contain polymers obtained by radical polymerisation of monomers in presence of copolymers of unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acids and esters of unsaturated acids with hydroxy-amines. The use of an aqueous polymer dispersion (D) containing dispersed particles of polymer(s) (A1) obtained by radical polymerisation in presence of a polymer (A2), as a binder in structural glues for wood. Polymer (A2) is derived from 50-99.5 wt% unsaturated mono- and/or di-carboxylic acid, 0.5-50 wt% unsaturated compound(s) selected from esters of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and half-esters and di-esters of unsaturated dicarboxylic acids with hydroxy-amine(s) and up to 20 wt% other comonomer(s). An Independent claim is also included for the use as a wood glue binder of an aqueous solution (S) containing (A) a polymer obtained by radical polymerisation, comprising 5-100 wt% unsaturated acid anhydride or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid capable of forming an anhydride and (B) an alkanolamine with at least 2 hydroxyl groups.
