The system has an electromagnetic interference filter, a full wave rectifier, a power factor correction circuit and a first inverter adapter circuit with an input from the power factor converter. The inverter adapter circuit has a tuning frequency stage for feeding an oscillatory current to supply a first fluorescent lamp without the need for pre-heating the lamp. The system has an electromagnetic interference filter with an input from an energy source and that produces a filtered output, a full wave rectifier with an input from the EMI filter output and that produces a rectified d.c. voltage, a power factor correction circuit with an input from the rectifier output and producing an output with a regulated power factor and a first inverter adapter circuit with an input from the power factor converter. The inverter adapter circuit has a tuning frequency stage for feeding an oscillatory current to supply a first fluorescent lamp without the need for pre-heating the lamp.
