The method involves feeding operating system-independent printer-typical standard characters contg. the current message and the receiver's subscriber unit number via a suitable conventional interface (1) to another interface (2), whereby the characters at the output of the further interface are encoded into a network SMS format by a controller (3) and sent to at least one subscriber unit via the mobile radio module (5). Independent claims are also included for an arrangement for short message transmission and for a method of message and data communications.
