New axially-substituted cyclohexylene derivatives, used as components of liquid crystal media for liquid crystal displays and electro-optical displays

Axially substituted cyclohexylene derivatives (I) with a difluoromethyleneoxy linkage are new. Axially-substituted cyclohexylene derivatives of formula (I) are new. Q-Z1-(A1-Z2)p-CF2O-(Z3-A2)q-R (I) Q = a group of formula (i) in which one or more H atoms in one or both of the 6-membered rings may be replaced with F; W1-W4 = -CH2- and/or -O-; X1-X3 = F, Cl, CN or 1-12C alkyl (optionally with one or more CH2 groups replaced by -O- and/or with one or more carbons replaced by C=C and/or with one or more H atoms replaced by halogen, with the proviso that one or two of the groups X1-X3 may also be H if m equals 1; Z0-Z3 = -COO-, -OCO-, -O-, -CH2O-, -CF2O-, -OCH2-, -OCF2-, -CHFO-, -OCHF-, -CH2-, -CF2-, -C2H4-, -CH2CF2-, -CF2CH2-, -CF2CF2-, -CH=CH-, -CF=CH-, -CH=CF-, -CF=CF-, -C-triple bond-C- or a single bond; R = 1-15C alkyl (linear, branched or cyclic, optionally with one or more CH2 replaced by -O-, -S-, -CO-, -OCO-, -COO- and/or -C-triple bond-C- and/or with one or more CH groups replaced by N and/or with one or more C replaced by -C=C- and/or with one or more H replaced by halogen and/or CN), with the proviso that R may also be H, halogen, CN, NCS or SF5 if q is 1 or 2; A1, A2 = (a) trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, optionally with one or more CH2 groups replaced by O and/or S, (b) 1,4-phenylene, optionally with one or more CH replaced by N, (c) 1,4-bicyclo(2.2.2)octylene, piperidine-1,4-diyl, naphthalene-2,6-diyl or its decahydro- or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro derivatives or (d) 1,4-cyclohexenylene, where all types of groups (a-d) may be substituted with CN, Cl, F, 1-6C alkyl and/or 1-6C alkoxy (both optionally substituted with F and/or Cl); m = 0 or 1; and p, q = 0, 1 or 2. Independent claims are also included for (1) liquid crystalline (LC) media with at least two components, containing at least one compound (I) (2) LC display elements containing such LC media (3) electro-optical display elements containing such media as the dielectric.
