A perpendicular writer comprises a perpendicular writer (18) pole comprising non-magnetic, electrically conductive, corrosion-resistant seedlayer (30), and magnetic layer plated upon the seedlayer. An Independent claim is also included for perpendicular write head comprising a main pole (32), return pole (26), and conductive coils (34). The main pole has nonmagnetic, electrically conductive, corrosion-resistant seedlayer and magnetic layer plated upon the seedlayer. The return pole is separated from the main pole by a gap at an air bearing surface of the write head and coupled to the main pole opposite the air- bearing surface. The conductive coils are positioned between main pole and return pole.
