The chain wheel guard comprises a shield and a stop for the axial fastening of the central section of the shield. Adequate fastening of the shield takes place inside the bore of an eye of the bottom bracket bearing. The central region of the shield is screwed to the pedal arm (10) or to the bottom bracket bearing shaft. Locking means are provided in the central region of the shield, and a screw is provided for the fastening of the pedal arm on the bottom bracket bearing shaft. An undercut is provided on the screw head as a seat for the locking means.
