The linear drive has a toothed belt (2) with teeth (3) having pitch that is 0.8 percent less than the pitch of the teeth (10) of a toothed counterpiece (5), when the belt is pretensioned. The gap width of the teeth of the counterpiece is 20 to 80 percent wider than the width of each tooth of the belt. The teeth of the belt are more elastic than the tension reinforcement of the belt.
