The high desk or lectern is assembled of two legs (2), a stand, and a vertically movable desktop (1) provided with two stick shaped lateral extensions (3, 4) located on both sides of its rear edge. One of the sticks (4) is positioned in front of each leg (2), the second (3) behind it, causing the desktop (1) to acquire an inclined position. A rope (12), also joined laterally to the rear of the desktop (1) is guided across return pulleys (11) located at the top of the legs (2) into the hollow legs and joined to counterweights (10) accommodated inside the legs (2) with its opposite end. The desktop (1) can be infinitely moved vertically and is kept in position by the combined forces of the weight of the inclined desktop (1) and the counterweights (10).
