A wire (2) is stitched into the hair band along its outer edge in order to reinforce the band and assist tying of knots. An elongated hole (3) reinforced by stitching (4) is provided in the middle of the band. Long to medium length hair is passed through the hole and rolled around its own axis towards the head, forming a roll of hair which can be fixed in place by knotting the ends of the hair band. The hair band is made from a soft elastic material, preferably a fabric.
