A universal control and operation system has a control/operating appliance for enabling technically unskilled persons to operate and control all types of operable appliances, and includes a mini-computer for evaluating various inputs and communicating the information to the user and analyzing the environmental information. The control and operating appliance contains at least one system for command input, such as keys, touch-sensitive areas, microphone etc which are connected to an integrated voice recognition system. At least one system is provided for detecting and evaluating the physical environmental state, such as microphones, temperature sensors, air-pressure meters, humidity sensors, so as to resolve the possible functions of the appliances automatically and communicate only meaningful operating possibilities to the user.
