The device for the fastening of a sidewall tarpaulin cover (6) to the awning (4) of a caravan has a fastening unit (10) formed from at least two sections fixed along the side edge of the awning and which each comprises an upper section (34,36) and lower section (24,26) which are movably interconnected by a connecting element in the form of a joint or hinge. The lower sections are fastening rails which are rectangular in cross-section. On the lower side of the lower section of the fastening unit a slot is provided for location of the tarpaulin cover's weatherstrip piping.
