A boring bit has shaped recesses at the working end to locate a central cutting edge (40), one inner side cutting edge (51) and one outer side cutting edge (52). The central cutting edge has a pointed centre, offset from the centre of the tool, and one side edge, with a shaped intermediate edge profile. Any swarf left in the intermediate profile is removed with the next pass by the sloping edge of the centre profile. The three cutting edges are secured by threaded fasteners and self locate into the recesses.
