The air duct (12) and the ventilation grille (14) are situated under the flat top of the dashboard (11) near the windscreen (10). The airbag module (16) is situated adjacent to the air duct, on the side adjacent to the passenger. When the gas generator (19) is triggered to deploy the airbag, a top folded packet (21) expands and displaces the wall (23) of the air duct. The ventilation grille is forced off its mounting, and a further folded portion of the airbag (22) is pulled out from under a partition (20) and inflated.
