The roof covering consists of large area profiled panels (1) or strips which at least along their longitudinal edges each have longitudinal ribs (3) with an upwards projecting and especially symmetrical truncated cone shaped cross sectional profile. The eaves end of the panels or strips stretch beyond the lower roof end by an amount which corresponds to the width of the foot areas of their overlapping longitudinal ribs. The open ends of the longitudinal ribs are closed off by means of bending up or bending round of part sections of the panels or strips projecting over the lower roof end.
