The knife block (10) is provided with an insertion slot (20) for a single knife (50), comprising a pressure element (60) joined to the rear of the slot (20) with hinges (80). When the blade of the knife (50) is inserted it is automatically pressed against a sharpening element (30) integrated in the lower surface of the slot (20). Each of the blocks (10) is fitted with two projections located at one lateral outer surface and matching recesses (40) at the opposite side in order to be joined to other blocks (10), forming a unit for the storage of several knives (50).
