A can opener (1) has a hand-grip (13) on an spindle (11) and a cutting tip (14). The opener has cam which is secured esp. by a wing nut whose tips operate as pins. The spindle has an outer thread which is commensurate with the forward-feed wheel action. During the advancing rotational action the grip is tightened, and in rearward rotational action the grip is slackened.
