The radial fan impeller has a cover plate (3) having an inlet opening (5), and a bottom plate (1), which are interconnected by a blade ring. Outer edge sections (7) protruding beyond the blade outlet diameter are constructed on the cover and bottom plates and define an annular diffusion space with an outside diameter which exceeds the blade outlet diameter by up to 25 per cent, and the cross sectional profile of which widens outwards rectangularly or trapezoidally.
