Device for producing a sodium hypochlorite solution comprises a water softener (1) connected to the cathode chambers (4a) of a membrane electrolysis cell (4) for introducing water, and a salt solution container (2) connected to the anode chambers (4b) of the cell for introducing sols. The anode and cathode chambers are separated by a cation exchange membrane (4c). The cathode-side outlet at which a mixture of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen is removed is connected to a water separator (7) which leads to a reactor (8) via a line for sodium hydroxide. The anode-side outlet at which chlorine gas and lean sols are removed is connected directly to the reactor. The sodium hypochlorite solution produced in the reactor is fed to a sodium hypochlorite storage container (9). Preferred Features: A dosing pump (3) is arranged in the injection line of the anode chambers so that the amount of the sols is measured to give a current-flow ratio of more than 50, preferably more than 100 Ah/l.
