The device is designed as a rectangular base (2) of a rigid material, provided with suction cups at its lower surface for being attached to a worktop and an opening for the insertion of the spiked gripping tool (1, 3). When the piece of fruit or vegetable is pushed onto the spikes, the gripping tool (1, 3) is transferred from the horizontal area to a vertical element on top of the base (2). The shaft of the tool (1, 3) is inserted into an inclined opening (4, 5), facilitating the single-handed peeling with a suitable device.
