The artificial knee joint (100) fits onto an upper leg stump (8) and has a bowl-shaped member (1) with upper pivots for first and second connecting linkages (21,22). There are pivots on a lower carrier frame (3). The third link (23) has a bottom pivot on a hydraulic spring system (4) in the lower carrier frame and a top pivot slightly above the mid point of the second link.
