The milling machine (1) smoothes the edges of planks (5), which are held on a flat table (3). The table can move sideways and transfer the packets of planks (4) to a first conveyor (7). This moves the packets of planks up against a stop (8). A pusher (9) moves the packets of planks sideways onto a second conveyor (10). The system includes a stop finger (23). Each plank stands on its edge on the conveyor. The planks reach the end of the conveyor and turn through 90 degrees as they fall off onto a moving table forming part of the singling device (15).
