Device for measuring the arterial blood pressure and the waveform of the maximum and minimum arterial pressure and its temporal behavior using a piezoelectric sensor that is mounted on the wrist with an arrangement for application of a measurable and adjustable pressure to the skin surface above the artery. Sensor and arrangement are fixed so that the arterial pressure can be sensed by the sensor with said sensor comprising a multiplicity of planar piezoelectric sensors so that a large measurement surface is formed.
