Collection unit aligning small, straight cylindrical particles of e.g. foam, textile or chemicals, employs swirl chamber for alignment and transfer into tubular collector
Particles (12) introduced into the swirl chamber (18), are transferred into a predetermined flow section (72), orientating them for entry into a collection channel (48) having an internal cross section suitably similar to the particle cross section, which accommodates them. The particles in the swirl chamber are driven in opposed circular paths which unite in the common flow section ahead of and directed towards the collection channel, being introduced into it by the local pressures. A blow-back nozzle blasts any jammed particles back into the swirl chamber. Nozzle (56, 58) orientation in the chamber assists circular flow and particle placement. A side entry feed chamber (16) with feed nozzle (64) is included. The channel cross section and design, maintain particle orientation during motion through it. Particle and channel cross section are circular. Swirl chamber axial cross section is constant.
