The dustbin has an inner and an outer bin, with the outer bin (1) on its upper end constructed in the form of a hemispherical truncated hood (12). The lid of the bin consists of two mirror-image symmetrical halves (4) which can hinge around a common horizontal axis. A damper (5) to delay the closing movement of the lid halves includes a piston and cylinder unit (51,54) which by its upper end is rigidly connected to a pushrod (2) linked to the lid halves, and by its lower end connected to the inner wall of the outer bin.
