The cup holder (23) for installing in a motor vehicle has a holding space which when not in use is closed off by a spring-loaded cover (1) which when a cup is inserted swings into a vertical position against the force of the spring. The front wall (3) bounding the holding space and lying opposite the cover in the hinged down position is hinge-mounted in the end section lying opposite the insertion opening. The front wall is mounted to hinge with spring loading.
