A balance beam with tactile function has the faces of the beam provided with different profiled regions (3), each providing a different tactile feel. At least two opposite faces (A, C) of the beam are provided with tactile areas. Additional tactile areas can be provided on the other two sides. The beam is supported either way up between two triangular cross section supports (1) cut with a slot to take the beam. The slot is designed to hold the beam at a set spacing above the floor.
