The side board comprises a number of wall elements arranged, one behind the other, in the longitudinal direction of the cooling grate. The side board has, firstly, outer plates (8,10) arranged, one behind the other, on the cooling grate's distant layer, and, secondly, inner plates (16,18) arranged, one behind the other, on the cooling grate's nearest layer. In the mounted position the butt joints (12,14) of the outer plates, and the butt joints (20,22) of the inner plates are set against one another in the longitudinal direction. The overlapping outer and inner plates may be connected to each other.
