The hand plane has at least one rotary planing blade (11) whose circle of motion when planing protrudes in the vicinity of an opening (13) in a base plate (15). A pivotable supporting foot (16) protrudes beyond the base surface of the base plate to ensure ground clearance for the blade in the parked position. The supporting foot is attached to the housing so as to freely pivot between two positions, pref. stops (17,18). The supporting foot, which is pref. made of plastic, is plate-shaped and is suspended from the machine by two arms arranged at a distance apart and parallel to each other.
