The method involves selecting the most cost-effective tariff for a subscriber using stored data for competing tariffs representing prices depending on at least one of start time, day of week, holidays and tariff zone. The end time of the connection and the corresponding data are also tariff data. The connection is made without prior selection of a single tariff and the most cost-effective tariff is determined at the end of the connection, taking into account the duration of the connection. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing a method of providing telecommunications connections at low cost.
