The bore measurement involves clamping the body of a fuel injection valve (1), via a receiving mandrel (3) into a chuck (5), which is disposed on a table allowing adjustment in three planes. At least one light guide rod (7) is inserted into the mandrel, one end of which is connected to a light source through light guide cable (9) and the other end of the guide opening out in an area (11) inside the valve body to illuminate the bottom of the bore (13) to be measured. The injection bore is aligned such that the bore axis is centred relative to the optical axis of a camera which is used to produce an image of the bore. The inlet (17) and outlet (19) edges of the bore may be measured successively by altering the focus of the camera. The image can then be evaluated to determine bore axis, angle of elevation, azimuth angle, spatial position and bore geometry.
