The procedure for the continuous manufacture of infusion bags, and especially teabags, entails forming closed chambers containing a quantity of the substance and then fastening them to a backing material. The chambers are formed by cross seams which comprise the rear seam of one bag and the forward seam of the following bag. A perforation lies between the two seams to allow separation of the bag in the course of the process. The cross seam is produced by ultrasound. An Independent claim is included for a system for the continuous manufacture of infusion bags which includes a sonotrode(7) installed at a transverse sealing station(5,5a) and interacting with a sealing roller(8) to form a double seam, and a further station(10,10a) in which the chambers are separated and attached to a backing material strip(12).
