Friction unit comprises a carbon body made ceramic by infiltrating with silicon and forming silicon carbide in a region representing a core body, and a carbon body made ceramic by infiltrating with silicon and forming silicon carbide in a region representing a friction body. Recesses and/or hollow chambers are formed in defined inner regions in the carbon body forming the core body. The hollow chambers are partially enclosed by the carbon body. The hollow chambers are provided with ventilating channels which lead to the outer side of the carbon body. The core is made from rubber or plastic, preferably Styropor (RTM) or hard foam body.
