A current limiting component comprises a semi-conductor element with a large excepted band which incorporates some second (4) and third (3) regions in a first region (2) of semi-conductors delimiting a channel (6) for the circulation of current (I) between some source electrodes (12) and of drain (14). The component also incorporates a control electrode (11) electrically connected to the third semi-conductor region in order to apply, between this third semi-conductor region and the source electrode, a voltage (U) for controlling the current limiting value obtained with this component. Independent claims are included for current limiting device incorporating this current limiting component and for a method for the fabrication of the current limiting component.
