Test bed (10) for testing engine gearboxes comprises a mounting frame (22) with a support (24a) for receiving a first gearbox (12) and a second supplementary support (24b) for receiving a supplementary gearbox (12) of different type to the first box. Each box is mounted on its support associated with modular interchangeable positioning means (40a, 40b) which are adapted to the internal shaft separation of the gear box so that different types of gear boxes can be tested on the bed. An Independent claim is included for a control method for use with a controller for the gearbox test bed.
