System for monitoring the fluid flow in the pipeline of a pneumatic system has an autonomous power supply based on derivation of power from a fluid flow and its pressure. Thus the system has accumulators (10) and a turbine type power generator (3) for supplying electricity to the accumulators. The latter are used as flow rate sensors and displays (5, 6) indicate the flow rate in the line. An Independent claim is made for a method for monitoring flow rate and pressure in a line in which power for operating the monitoring system is derived from a turbine system which takes power form the circulating fluid and its pressure.
