Kit, particularly for serological diagnosis of nasopharyngeal cancer, comprising a plate with many rows of wells, each of which has the EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) major DNA binding protein (mDBP) attached to its base in fixed quantities of 1, 0.5, 0.25, 0.125, 0.064, 0.032, 0.016 and 0.008 micro g, respectively, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) mDBP of molecular weight 135 kD, encoded by the BALF2 gene of EBV and containing 1128 amino acids (sequence fully defined in the specification); and (2) a recombinant method for producing mDBP.
