The actuator has a piston (2) driven by a rotary electric motor (4) through a mechanical coupling (5,6). The vibration-type electric motor has a stator, a rotor and excitation device used to distort the stator and/or rotor, producing a combination of tangential and normal vibration. The mechanical coupling between piston and electric motor can be disconnected when supply to the motor is removed.
