The collision protection comprises an airbag (20) which can be deployed outside the vehicle (1) which is contained in its folded state in a casing (22). There is a bag deployment control unit (28) and obstacle detection transmitter (32) connected to the control unit delimiting a detection field (34) in the periphery of the vehicle zone to be protected (6).
